- What is the difference between Lamin-x and the cheaper imitation or auction products I find?
This is the perfect "You get what you pay for" situation. Those cheap films are a thin 2-3 mil sticker type of film. That has a dull "orange-peel" hazy finish, thin adhesive, no impact protection, & not forgiving to install on any lights that have a compound curve. Lamin-x is the complete opposite of that cheap stuff. Glossy finish, 12-40 mils thick for impact protection, forgiving installation, & designed to mold around complex curves. We design our own patterns to work with our own film. Most people find that cheaper sticker overlay a waste of time and money. Don't be one of them!
- Are your colored films legal on headlights for street use?
Our clear films are usually legal, but our colored films may not be legal for street use on primary lighting. Hence they are recommended for off-road use only. Please check your state or local laws before application. Installation of colored Lamin-x on your primary lights is done so at your own risk.
- How dark are your smoked films?
Tint is our lightest film that blocks only 5% of light.
Gunsmoke is our medium film that blocks 12% of light
- What to do if you have fogginess, air or water bubbles, surface texture, or scratches after your Lamin-x installation?
Once the film fully cures (normally a couple of weeks of warm sunlight), most imperfections will completely disappear. Lamin-x is a breathable and self-healing polyvinyl film. Just be patient and keep it exposed to sunlight warmth.
- How do I remove the film?
Lamin-x can be easily removed without damage to the light. Upon initial application, the film can be pulled back up and reapplied numerous times if not installed correctly. Lamin-x is very forgiving. Once the film has settled (appx 48-72 hours), the product is not considered reusable. To remove, warm the film & peel it off slowly. If there is any additional adhesive left on the lens, clean it off with Bug and Tar remover, Goo Gone, or a similar product.
2020 Golf GTI yellow lamin
The figment of the provided strips was not sufficient and ended up removing after install before throwing away. I was able to center apply without bubbling, and the material was amazing. The disappointing aspect was the shape/size of provided strips. Would not recommend and save your money seeking another product. Shipping, responsiveness, and all other aspects were flawless.

The Mk7 Lamin-X Covers can be one of the more tricky sets to install since they are small pieces but they are precision cut to match. We recommend water to be sprayed onto the lights to ease application to position them just right. You can always contact us if there is an issue with any product installation.
Good, Especially for the Price
In the end this is an inexpensive mod that does the job for those that don't need perfection. It was a bit tedious to install, and at the right distance and angle you can see parts of the lens that aren't covered, but I'm quite happy. From 3 feet away it looks like I've got perfectly covered yellow fogs that look good!
Love the look
Pieces are hard to handle since kinda small, but after all put on they look great. Maybe took less than 5 minutes.. just keep the surface area wet.. the moisture you get out with a credit card
Poor quality
Installed the yellow fog light covers on my 2017 GTI, overall quality of the product did not exceed my expectations, I followed the cleaning instructions and product is very forgiving as far as adhesive wise but the yellow lenses are not cut to size they are actually larger than the space permitted, which makes installing them in the tight area quite difficult, also when the lights are on the color appears to be more of a light green than yellow, overall I am not happy with this product
